How to Install HD Lace Hair Extensions for a More Invisible Blend

Table of Contents

The most natural-looking HD lace installation starts with a clean, straight parting and a high placement that keeps the soft lace edge close to the visible scalp line. That placement lets the scalp-like base, graduated hand-tied density and fuller upper section work together instead of creating a separate ridge below the part.

The principle is the same for Endaring HD Clip-Ins and HD Tape-In Weft, but the attachment steps are different. HD Clip-Ins use two clips that need to be secured with the lace held flat between them. HD Tape-In Weft attaches to a controlled section of natural hair and is sealed with single-sided tape.

Start with a clean, straight parting

Before attaching either product, make the parting clean and straight. A wavy or uneven section makes the extension edge follow an irregular line, which can create gaps, angled density or a base that looks disconnected from the scalp.

The goal is to keep the soft edge of the HD lace at or very close to the scalp that is already visible at the part, depending on the attachment method. The lace base and individually hand-tied hair are designed to create a scalp-like root effect. When the edge follows the parting closely, the extension begins where the eye already expects hair to emerge.

For HD Tape-In Weft, the natural hair should also be clean, completely dry and free from oils or styling residue at the attachment area so the tape can bond evenly.

Why HD lace should sit high and close to the part

Conventional advice often focuses on leaving enough natural hair above an extension to hide its base. HD lace changes that placement logic. Its fine edge and hand-tied roots are designed to work close to a visible parting, so placing the piece higher can make it easier to blend when the surrounding natural hair is suitable.

The density should build from the parting

Endaring’s HD hair is hand-knotted onto the lace with lower density around the edge and more density toward the inside of the piece. Placed at or close to the part, that progression follows a natural visual pattern: the scalp is visible at the line, then the hair becomes gradually fuller away from it.

If the piece sits too far below the part, the graduated density begins in the wrong place. The natural hair above it may lie flat while the extension becomes fuller lower down, making the installation line easier to notice.

The fuller upper section should support the roots, not form a bump

Each strand passes through the lace and is knotted by hand. The two lengths then overlap above the base, creating a fuller upper section with a soft arch. Close to the part, that structure can support the root area and help lift roots that tend to lie flat.

Farther away from the part, the same upper-section shape may sit under an unrelated layer of natural hair and create a raised area. Keeping the piece high allows the arch and density transition to begin where the natural hairstyle already has its root structure.

Choose a stable section with enough natural hair around the placement to support the attachment and complete the blend. If the top area has an obvious bare spot or cannot support the piece comfortably, the placement needs individual assessment rather than simply moving the extension higher.

How to install HD Clip-Ins near the parting

HD Clip-Ins are removable and can be installed at home once you know where the piece should sit. For the two-clip HD piece, the key is to keep the lace flat between the clips.

    1. Create a small section close to your usual parting

Keep the parting you normally wear, then use a tail comb to separate a tiny, clean section of natural hair beside or very close to it. This small section gives the clips hair to grip while keeping the HD lace high and close to the visible parting. Do not create the section farther down simply because that is where you want more volume.

    2. Position the lace edge

Hold the HD Clip-In against the small section so the soft lace edge sits beside and very close to the visible parting. Check that the piece sits high enough for the graduated edge to flow into the fuller hair behind it.

    3. Secure the first clip

Open both clips. Anchor one clip into the natural hair and close it securely without pulling the section out of position.

    4. Hold the base flat and secure the second clip

With the first clip fixed, gently draw the other end across the section until the lace between the two clips is smooth and flat. Keep even tension without overstretching the lace, then secure the second clip.

This step matters because clipping both ends onto a loose or folded base can leave the middle raised. Flattening the lace between the clips helps the piece follow the curve of the head.

    5. Release and check the blend

Let the surrounding hair fall into place. Check the parting from the front, side and above. The lace edge should sit close beside the part, the center of the piece should lie flat, and the hair should become fuller gradually rather than forming a sudden ledge.

How to install HD Tape-In Weft at the parting

HD Tape-In Weft is designed for longer wear and should be installed by someone familiar with tape-in sectioning and single-sided tape. The placement differs from a conventional tape-in because the Endaring HD piece has an approximately 1–2 mm soft lace edge without adhesive.

That tape-free margin allows the lace edge to meet the parting line while the bonded area remains on the natural hair. The soft edge can still lift and lower with the piece, so the near-part placement does not remove the movement needed for comfortable wear.

    1. Prepare a clean, controlled section

Create a clean, straight parting and isolate a thin, even panel of natural hair that matches the width of the extension. Clip all surrounding hair away from the tape area.

    2. Align the soft lace edge with the part

Position the piece so the 1–2 mm tape-free lace margin meets the visible scalp at the part. Keep the adhesive section flat against the selected natural hair rather than placing the whole lace edge farther below the line.

    3. Apply the tape side to the natural hair

Press the adhesive side evenly onto the controlled section. The piece should remain straight across the part rather than tilting upward or downward at one end.

    4. Lift the piece and remove stray hair

Lift the extension so you can see the attachment underneath. Use a tail comb or your fingers to pull down every strand that did not adhere evenly to the tape. Only the intended thin, even section should remain in the bond.

Removing stray hair keeps the attachment cleaner and helps prevent uneven pulling when the piece moves.

    5. Seal with single-sided tape

Apply single-sided tape over the prepared section to secure the natural hair against the adhesive. Align the tape edge to the bonded area and press across the full attachment so the seal is flat and even.

    6. Check movement before continuing

Gently lift and lower the extension. It should move without the parting twisting, individual hairs pulling or the lace folding. Correct any trapped hair or uneven contact before moving to the next section.

How to place an HD extension around a cowlick

A cowlick at the back can push natural hair apart and expose an attachment placed directly below or through it. Instead, place the HD extension above the cowlick so the extension hair falls over the growth pattern.

Then release the wearer’s own hair from above the cowlick and comb it down over the extension. This creates two layers over the difficult area: the extension hair first, followed by the natural hair above it. Check the result while the person moves their head, because a cowlick can reopen when viewed from a different angle.

Final checks for a less noticeable installation

Before finishing, check the installation in natural light and from more than one angle.

    • The parting is clean and straight.
    • The soft lace edge sits at or very close to the visible scalp line, as required by the attachment method.
    • The extension sits high enough for density to build naturally from the part.
    • The lace lies flat without a fold or raised center.
    • The upper-section shape supports the roots without creating a separate bump.
    • The Clip-In is evenly tensioned between both clips.
    • The Tape-In bond contains only the intended natural-hair section and moves without pulling.
    • A rear cowlick remains covered when the hair and head move.

If the base still shows, do not solve every problem by adding more hair over it. First check the section line, height, edge position and whether the lace is lying flat. Correct placement allows the HD construction to do the work it was designed to do.

Choose the HD format that fits your routine

HD Clip-Ins suit a removable routine and let you adjust the placement each time you wear them. HD Tape-In Weft stays installed between maintenance appointments and uses a single-sided tape attachment.

Both use Endaring’s fine HD lace and individually hand-tied hair. The most natural-looking result comes from matching that construction with a clean parting, a high near-part placement and the correct attachment technique for the product.
